Building a Brand 2016 | For Photographers

Not everyone married a graphic designer, so building a brand may be a very foreign concept to many.

It seems like a simple question at first, but the answer is really anything but a simple one.
If you’re confused by your brand, your customers will be confused, too.

Simply put, your brand is your promise to your customers. It’s the way your business is represented, and what it represents to your customers can make or break a business. A common misconception is that you can get a cheap logo, and that’s your brand. That couldn’t be further from the truth. There are so many ways to build a brand, but it all boils down to cohesion (making everything you do cohesive) which fosters trust from your clients and potential clients.

For photographers, it makes sense to have your brand pull from what you photograph. A fine art wedding photographer and a sports photographer should have completely different brands, and feelings throughout their work.

Your brand can really say a lot about how you continue to operate your business. Almost like a subconscious guide. Investing in a professionally designed brand can truly change your world.

That being said, I have been working on developing our brand, and what it represents.
In all honesty, I’ve been struggling with this for a few weeks — the direction I want my editing to go, the direction our shooting style will go (accepting more big weddings vs. just elopements…) things like that are all important when developing a brand.

So I took a step back, explored some options, realized I didn’t like a few things, and here’s the final result. A design company will provide something like this (or a much larger, expanded version that includes brand theory, print and web formatted files, etc. much more than just a logo, but also a brand book) if you get a brand professionally created.

This brand allowed me the clarity I needed to move forward, and it honestly fills me with pure excitement and motivation.

Our colors are pulled directly from the images used on this page. Being on the coast, and frequently shooting on the beach, we felt a coastal vibe would really hold true to our clients and our reputation.

We are so excited to use this as a starting point for the rest of our marketing materials!
